Supplement the door to door program with online leads in one of the most competitive markets in the country

The client came to us with the goal of supplementing and eventually replacing their door to door sales with sales from SEO and PPC (inbound marketing).

They knew that in the long run inbound marketing was more cost effective and led to a higher customer lifetime value than door to door sales, but they weren’t used to paying for sales that weren’t guaranteed.

The goal was especially ambitious because of the markets they were competing in – Austin, Houston, and San Antonio – which are among the most competitive markets in the country for SEO and PPC.

They hadn’t done any SEO before and traffic was trickling in at 100-1,000 users per month, mostly from current customers and all from their two Google Business Profiles.

They had tried PPC, but had no idea how effective it was because they weren’t accurately measuring leads and sales stemming from PPC.

The client was showing up on page three and lower for some of their target keywords, but they didn’t have the website authority or content to rank higher.

We needed to improve the content on their website to make the user experience better so that when users did find the website they didn’t leave.

Austin, Houston, and San Antonio were too competitive to win early on. In addition to targeting these cities, we also built new pages targeting less competitive markets so that we could get rankings, traffic, and leads sooner.

We also needed to create new content on their blog to create brand awareness and win more leads.

But we knew SEO was going to take time, so we supplemented our SEO efforts with a PPC campaign where we could get in front of customers in the Austin, San Antonio, and Houston markets from day one.

We started with the client in May 2022.

6 months later (in November) we had grown traffic from under 1,000 new users from SEO to 10,000 new users.

Two years later they were getting 209k+ new users per year from SEO and ranked in the top three in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and many more nearby markets for terms like “pest control near me”.

This increase in traffic led to 1,550 sales qualified leads (SQLs) per year and growing from SEO. These were leads that came from organic search and who did not find us by being referred by a friend, seeing a truck, or some other initial touch point. These leads found Reliant through organic search first, were in the client’s service area, and were ready to engage in a sales discussion.

PPC

To get leads quickly as we waited for our SEO efforts to work, we ran paid search ads.

Because the client wanted to avoid one-time services and wanted as many recurring pest control customers as possible, we created an offer and landing page that encouraged people to sign up for the recurring service.

Our offer included a $79 initial service and 1 free year of termite protection.

No one else in the market offered this kind of package so the client’s offer stood out from the rest.

Because of this, the client experienced immediate success with PPC and was able to scale their ad spend to $15,000/mo three months in with a cost per lead of $95.
