How to Add Your Marketing Agency to Your Pest Control Business’s Google Business Profile

Published: August 21, 2026

Giving your marketing agency access to your Google Business Profile is safer than sharing a password—and it lets the agency do the local SEO work you hired it to do.

The process takes only a few minutes. The important decision is whether to grant Manager or Owner access. Google generally recommends Manager access for third parties. At Pesty Marketing, we usually request Owner access because Manager access cannot manage users and has repeatedly created access bottlenecks for our team. Your pest control company should always remain the Primary owner.

This guide shows you exactly how to add an agency, choose the appropriate role, and keep control of your profile.

Owner vs. Manager: Which Role Should You Choose?

Both roles can handle most day-to-day profile work, including editing business information, responding to reviews, publishing posts, and managing photos. The biggest difference is access administration.

Choose Manager when you want the least access necessary

Manager is the best fit when your agency only needs to optimize the profile, post updates, manage photos, and respond to reviews. It follows Google’s least-privilege recommendation for third parties.

The limitation is that Managers cannot add or remove users. If your agency needs to add a specialist, replace a team member, or resolve an access issue, someone on the client side must do it.

Choose Owner when your agency needs to manage access

Owner access makes sense when you want the agency to manage both the profile and the people who can access it. An Owner can add or remove users and can perform nearly all profile actions.

At Pesty Marketing, we typically ask clients to grant Owner access because Manager access has caused enough recurring limitations to slow down work. For example, a Manager cannot add another authorized team member when responsibilities change. Owner access lets us resolve those routine access needs without repeatedly asking the client to step in.

This does not mean giving up control. Keep your business account as the Primary owner, never share your Google password, and remove agency access when the relationship ends.

Before You Start

Ask your agency for its Google Business Profile organization ID and the exact organization name that should appear in Google. Some agencies may also call this a location-group ID.

You will also need:

  • Owner access to your pest control company’s Google Business Profile
  • A signed-in Google account with permission to manage users
  • A decision between Manager and Owner access

Never send your password. The organization-ID invitation gives the agency access through its own Google Business Profile organization while keeping your login credentials private.

How to Add Your Marketing Agency to Google Business Profile

1. Open your Business Profile settings

Sign in to the Google account that manages your business. Search Google for your pest control company, then select the three-dot menu beside your Business Profile controls. Choose Business Profile settings.

2. Open People and access

In the Business Profile settings window, select People and access. This screen shows everyone who can manage the profile and the role assigned to each person or organization.

3. Add your agency

Select Add. Enter the organization ID supplied by your agency. Do not enter an agency employee’s email address; the email invitation can appear to work until Google blocks the agency from accepting it.

Google should show the agency’s organization name in the dropdown. Select it only after confirming that the name matches the agency you hired.

4. Choose the role

Choose Manager for least-privilege access, or Owner if you want the agency to manage users and avoid client-side access bottlenecks.

If you are a Pesty Marketing client, select Owner unless your account strategist has asked for a different role. Your company should remain the Primary owner.

5. Send the invitation

Select Invite. Let your agency know the invitation is waiting. Access is not active until the invited person or organization accepts it.

What Happens After the Agency Accepts?

Once the invitation is accepted, the agency can begin managing the profile within the limits of its role. Google applies a seven-day restriction to certain actions for newly added Owners and Managers. During that period, they may be unable to remove users, delete or restore a profile, or transfer primary ownership.

That restriction is normal. It is a security measure, not a sign that the invitation failed.

Your agency can then begin work such as correcting business information, managing categories and services, improving photos, publishing updates, responding to reviews, and monitoring local visibility. If you want to understand what that work should include, see Pesty’s pest control SEO services and local SEO audit guide.

How to Remove Agency Access Later

When your agreement ends, open Business Profile settings → People and access, select the agency, and remove its access. Google’s third-party policies require agencies to make it easy for businesses to regain exclusive control and to remove access promptly after termination.

Before removing an agency, confirm that your company still has an active Primary owner and at least one other trusted internal Owner. Do not transfer primary ownership to the agency as part of routine marketing access.

Keep Control Without Slowing Down the Work

The right setup gives your agency enough access to do its job while your pest control business remains in control.

Use Manager access when the agency only needs day-to-day profile tools. Use Owner access when you also want the agency to administer users and resolve access issues. In either case, keep your company as Primary owner, use individual accounts, and never share passwords.
